I have a bit of a bad habit of over-doing birthday parties, but for me it just falls into the "They're only young once" category. I have never made fondant, I've just used the store bought kind as an accent (it does taste gross!). I'll have to try out that recipe! I do hand out favors (I can't believe I forgot that part!) but we haven't done "goody bags" since Grace's first birthday. This time we did giant rubber balls from Target, for less than $3 they are way cheaper than a goody bag, and much more likely to be played with. We have also made CD's, handed out Disney character cups, and coloring books and a big box of Crayolas. My craziest endeavor was for Evie's 1st birthday, where I painted a large rectangular canvas for each child with their name on it. The signs still hang in a few friends rooms, but it was probably a bit too much!
Blog question for you- How do I find out when people have commented? I didn't see this comment until today!Courtney K.https://www.blogger.com/profile/03183840017281141949noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9125106438189241052.post-88944151363512182772011-03-16T11:58:43.444-04:002011-03-16T11:58:43.444-04:00All of your decorating is as cute as can be! This ...All of your decorating is as cute as can be! This theme does look like a lot of fun to plan. I really hope to also try it out in a year or so. Thank you for all your party tips. We have yet to have a real kid party. (My only birthday party experience so far was nothing more than a mom's tea with a cake and kids picnicking in the living room.lol)

I really liked your idea of very easy party games.

The colors of your cake were gorgeous.

To make up for my great lack of icing skills I really like using homemade fondant (I think the boxed stuff tastes horrible). It is inexpensive to make and very easy too. I am sure your girls would also have a blast playing with it. This is my favorite recipe

http://whatscookingamerica.net/PegW/Fondant.htm

I do have the special thin plastic rolling pin made just for it, but I wonder if a regular one would work just as well.

Do you hand out favors?L Rhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17291355333194540684noreply@blogger.com
